5 Non-alcoholic drinks recipes

If you're pregnant or not drinkng alcohol right now, you might be looking for some festive alternatives to your normal tipple. Thankfully, non-alcoholic options have vastly increased in recent years, from non-alcoholic wines and prosecco, zero percent beers and ciders and alcohol free sprit alternatives.


Here I've listed five of my favourite mocktail ideas for you to enjoy this party season...


#1 Non-alcoholic mulled wine

Ingredients: (serves 6)

  • 500ml pomegranate juice

  • 25g golden caster sugar

  • handful of frozen blackberries

  • 250ml apple juice

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1 star anise

  • 4 cloves

  • 3 black peppercorns

  • 1 orange, quartered


How to make: takes 20 mins

Step 1:

  • Put the pomegranate juice, sugar, blackberries and apple juice in a saucepan. Add the cinnamon, star anise, cloves, peppercorns and orange.

Step 2:

  • Heat gently until simmering. Taste for sweetness, then strain into heatproof glasses.


#2 Cranberry Spritz

Ingredients: (serves 2)

  • 100ml cranberry juice

  • ½ orange, juiced

  • 6 sage leaves

  • around 4 ice cubes

  • 80ml sparkling white grape juice


How to make: takes 5 mins

Step 1:

  • Pour 50ml cranberry juice into two champagne coups or wine glasses. Divide the orange juice between them, then stir.

Step 2:

  • Add 3 sage leaves and an ice cube or two to each glass, then top up with the sparkling grape juice.

#3 Frozen Blackberry Smoothie

Ingredients: (serves 1-2)

  • 10 frozen blackberries

  • ½ banana (or 1 small one), sliced

  • 1 ball of stem ginger, from a jar

  • 100ml pomegranate juice or red grape juice

  • ice

  • 1 thyme sprig and 1 frozen blackberry, to garnish

How to make: takes 10 mins

#4 Clemantine Mock Mojito

Ingredients: (serves 1)

  • 1 clementine

  • ½ tsp demerara sugar

  • 1 lemon wedge, chopped

  • ice

  • small handful of mint, woody stalks removed

  • a few drops of orange blossom water

  • sparkling water, to top up

How to make: takes 5 mins

#5 Mulled Tea

  • 1 tbsp dried rose petals

  • 4 cloves

  • 1 bay leaf

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 2 handfuls frozen mixed berries

  • 1 tsp cranberry sauce

  • ½ orange, quartered

  • 1 green tea tea bag


How to make: taskes 15 mins

If you choose to try one of these recipies, my top tip for enjoying a non-alcoholic beverage, at a party or social occasion, is use a nice glass. It can really make the difference.
